The Warm Spot on the Floor
It starts as a mystery. You walk across the kitchen barefoot and feel a warm spot on the tile. Or maybe you hear the faint sound of running water, even though every faucet is off. Or perhaps your water bill just doubled overnight.
These are the classic signs of a slab leak.
In many local homes, water lines run underneath the concrete foundation. When these copper pipes corrode or shift, they crack. Water pumps into the ground under your house, eroding the soil and threatening your foundation.
This is not a job for a handyman. You need a specialist.
At On Tap Plumbing, we don’t guess. We don’t start jackhammering holes in your floor hoping to get lucky. We use advanced slab leak detection technology to pinpoint the exact location of the leak within inches. We diagnose before we dig.
How We Find the Leak
Our trucks are “Warehouses on Wheels,” equipped with the same technology used by municipal water surveyors.
- Spot Repair
If the leak is in an accessible area (like a garage or under carpet), we carefully open a small section of the concrete. We cut out the bad section of pipe, replace it with new copper, and patch the concrete back up.
- Rerouting (The Non-Invasive Choice)
Sometimes, the leak is under expensive hardwood or custom tile. Instead of destroying your floor, we can often “reroute” the line. We abandon the broken pipe under the floor and run a brand new PEX water line through your walls and attic. This fixes the problem without ever touching your floor.
Common Symptoms of a Slab Leak
- Warm Spots: Unexplained heat on floors.
- Wet Baseboards: Moisture wicking up the drywall near the floor.
- Low Pressure: A sudden drop in water pressure at the tap.
- Cracks: New cracks appearing in your walls or flooring.
- Spinning Meter: Your water meter dial is moving even when water is off.
Why Choose On Tap Plumbing?
- We Are Precise: We treat your home like a patient. We use our tools to perform "surgery" only where absolutely necessary.
- We Are Honest: If a reroute is cheaper and safer than digging, we will tell you. We don't look for the most expensive fix; we look for the smartest fix.
- We Clean Up: Cutting concrete creates dust. We use containment zones and vacuums to keep your home clean during the repair.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How long does slab leak detection take?
usually 1 to 2 hours. We perform a series of tests to isolate the leaking line and pinpoint the spot.
Will you ruin my floors for slab leak detection?
Only if absolutely necessary for a spot repair. If you choose a “reroute,” we can often fix the issue without touching the flooring at all.
Does homeowners' insurance cover this?
Often, insurance covers the “access” (digging through the floor) and the water damage restoration, but not the pipe repair itself. Check your policy.
Why did my copper pipe leak?
It could be friction (rubbing against rock/concrete), corrosion from the soil, or simply age.
Is a slab leak an emergency?
Yes. Water flowing under your foundation can wash away the soil support, causing the concrete slab to crack or settle.
