Measure Twice, Cut Once (Because You Can't Fix it Later)
The “rough-in” is the most critical stage of plumbing. This is when the pipes are laid inside the walls and under the floors.
If a drain is off by an inch, your expensive new vanity won’t fit. If the shower valve is set too deep, your trim handle won’t screw on. If the venting isn’t right, your toilet will gurgle forever.
Once the drywall goes up and the tile is laid, fixing these mistakes costs thousands.
At On Tap Plumbing, we are the authority on precision. We read blueprints like a roadmap. We coordinate with your framers and electricians. We install the systems that pass code inspections on the first try so your project keeps moving.
Our “Warehouse on Wheels” trucks are stocked with the specific angles, wyes, and vent fittings needed to navigate complex framing. We don’t hold up the job site waiting on parts.
Residential Rough-In Services
We handle projects of all sizes, from a single fixture to a full room addition plumbing rough in.
- Kitchen Remodel Plumbing Rough In
Kitchens are complex. If you want an island, we handle the rough in plumbing for island sink configurations (which require special loop vents since there is no wall). We also run water lines for pot fillers and ice makers.
- Basement Bathroom Rough In
Adding a bathroom downstairs adds huge value. We handle the slab plumbing rough in, cutting the concrete to lay the sewer lines correctly. We ensure the underground plumbing rough in has the proper slope to eject waste up to the main line
- ADU Plumbing Rough In
Building an Accessory Dwelling Unit (granny flat)? We run the main service lines from the primary house to the new structure, handling the full ADU plumbing rough in including kitchen, bath, and laundry.
- Shower Valve Rough In Installation
The heart of your shower is the valve behind the wall. We secure the valve at the perfect depth for your tile thickness. We also handle bathtub rough in installation for freestanding and alcove tubs.
Remodels and Relocations
- Move Plumbing Lines for Remodel: Want the sink on the opposite wall? We reroute the supply and drain lines through the studs.
- Relocate Toilet Drain: Moving a toilet requires moving the 3-inch waste pipe and the flange. We do the heavy lifting to get the drain exactly where you want it.
- Washer Dryer Rough In: Moving the laundry room upstairs? We run the hot/cold lines and the standpipe drain, plus the emergency drain pan line.
- Utility Sink Rough In: Need a sink in the garage or mudroom? We can tap into existing lines to add this convenience.
Outdoor and Specialty Rough-Ins
We handle projects of all sizes, from a single fixture to a full room addition plumbing rough in.
- Outdoor Kitchen Rough In: We run gas lines for grills and water lines for outdoor sinks.
- Wet Bar Plumbing Rough In: We install compact drain and water lines for entertainment areas.
- Gas Line Rough In: We size and run black iron or flexible gas piping for fireplaces, ranges, and heaters.
Commercial Services
We help businesses expand. We provide commercial tenant improvement plumbing for retail spaces, restaurants, and offices. We handle the layout for multi-stall restrooms and commercial kitchens, ensuring ADA compliance and proper code adherence.
Why Choose On Tap for Your Project?
- We Speak "Inspector": We know the local codes inside and out. We pressure test every line (static water test or air test) to prove the system is leak-free before the inspector arrives.
- We Respect the Site: Construction sites can be messy, but we aren't. We clean up our PVC shavings and copper scraps.
- We Are Fast: We know other trades are waiting on us. We show up when scheduled and finish on time.
Maintenance Plan
Once the walls are closed up, you want those new pipes to last. Our maintenance plan includes checking your water pressure annually to ensure high pressure doesn’t stress the new joints we just installed.
Special Offers and Discounts
Building is expensive. We help where we can. We offer $200 Off Large Projects. We also extend a 10% discount to military members, teachers, and first responders.
Financing Options
If your renovation budget is tight, we offer flexible financing options through Housecall Pro. You can get the critical plumbing rough-in services done now and pay over time.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is a "rough-in"?
It is the stage where pipes are installed in the walls and floors, but the sinks and toilets (the “trim”) are not attached yet.
Can you move a toilet anywhere?
technically yes, but the floor joists determine how easy it is. If we have to cut through joists, it becomes a bigger structural job. We assess this before we quote.
Do I need a permit for a rough-in?
Yes. Any time you move a drain or water line, a permit and inspection are required. We handle this for you.
How do you rough in an island sink?
We use a “loop vent” or an Air Admittance Valve (AAV) inside the cabinet, since we can’t run a vent pipe up through the ceiling.
How long does a bathroom rough-in take?
typically 1 to 2 days, depending on whether we are moving lines or just replacing them.
